A foot valve is a lift check valve which is usually installed together with suction strainer in the suction line.

It prevents the suction line from running empty after the pump is stopped.

Grundfos foot valves come fitted with an inlet strainer.  The strainer filters the incoming water, therebypreventing debris in the well water from entering the pipe and clogging the valve.
