PVDF Specification

Polyvinyliden Fluoride (PVDF)

Properties

Polyvinyliden Fluoride is a high crystalline, thermoplastic material with excellent chemical, mechanical and physical properties. It has high abrasion Resistance and good impact resistance, even at low temperatures. PVDF is suitable for external applications and is non toxic. Further to this PVDF is flame resistant.

Chemical Resistance

PVDF has excellent chemical resistance. The list of chemicals it is resistant to is extensive but in the main they are the inorganic acids and bases, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, organic acids, alcohols and halogenated solvents. Further to this list it is also resistant to elementary halogens which do not contain fluorine.

Installation

The end of the pipe and the socket of the fitting are heated on a heating tool for a predetermined time until the correct fusion temperature is reached. The two parts are then brought together and pushed into full engagement. This method of jointing can be used for sizes up to 63mm dia. For larger sizes a machine should be used to enable an even pressure to be applied and to give good alignment between the pipe and the fitting.
